Informative session with MPs on European Green Deal and challenges for the the energy sector

The Academy of Political Studies held today in Tirana an information session with the members of the Parliamentary Committee on Production Activities, Trade and Environment on the topic "European Green Deal - Challenges and opportunities in the energy sector". The presentations of the selected experts to providing the best national and international expertise and practical knowledge, aimed to capacitate the MPs on the current energy crisis as well as the potential of decarbonization within the European Green Agreement.
 
The global energy crisis and its implications for Albania were addressed by Mr. Enea Karakaçi, Director General of Energy and Industry Policies and Development at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy. Mr. Rodon Miraj, national coordinator of ORF ETC - GIZ Albania, presented the legal framework to promote self-production from solar and wind sources, also as a solution for sustainable energy development. Decarbonization - The obligations and potential of the European Green Agreement, were addressed by Mr. Rodjon Gjoka, Head of the Environment Unit at the Co-Plan Institute and Mrs. Ray Koçi, urban planning expert and program manager at the "Relationship" center.
 
The parliamentarians praised the information provided very helpful for exert appropriate influence on the parliamentary functions as well as their sphere of public influence. Some MPs also expressed their commitment to be part of the Informal Green Parliamentary Group, recently registered by the Albanian Assembly, as a structure where MPs from all political groups can voluntarily join.

The event was organized in cooperation with the Albanian Assembly under the support of the German International Cooperation (GIZ) in the framework of the regional program "Increasing the knowledge of informal Parliamentary Green Groups from Southeast Europe on European Union objectives on energy and transport", implemented by the Schools of Political Studies in 6 countries of the region. The main objective of the program is to inform and promote concrete legislative and oversight initiatives within the parliamentary functions of the Green Parliamentary Groups, as well as to establish cooperation with other groups in the parliaments of the Western Balkans region.
