APS submit its recommendations on electoral reform

Friday, March 30, 2018

The Academy of Political Studies officially submitted its recommendations to the ad-hoc Parliamentary Commission on Electoral Reform in order to improve the process of electoral administration. These recommendations are based on several years of APS experience in implementing the first time voters education program in co-operation with the CEC and the Ministry of Education.

The key recommendations on the administration process consist on:

1. Establishment of a Training Center near the CEC in order to increase the professionalism of the electoral body. This should be accompanied by legal arrangements to return the certification from this center as a condition to register as a commissioner in the elections.

2. Necessary legal arrangements to clearly define the institutions, which should follow the complaints about the violation of the right to vote and the punishment for the abuse of the vote.

3. Use of technology to increase information and provide a further opportunity to report pressures and abuse of vote right.

The ASP will continue to closely follow the activity of the ad-hoc Parliamentary Commission as well as offer its expertise in view of tangible results from this important reform for the country.
