The first seminar of the School of Political Studies 2016 was held on 5 February, in Tirana, under the thematic "Justice Reform - Challenges and next steps". Mr. Fatmir Xhafaj, chairman of the ad hoc parliamentary committee, presented the vision and challenges is facing this important process and further steps towards the implementation of the constitutional amendments and the implementation of the recommendations of the Venice Commission.
Some of the most interest points of the discussion were the vetting procedures of over 800 judges and prosecutors who are part of the system; the legal framework for the implementation of these anti-corruption measures; the regulations of international inspectors in the vetting process, and the debate on the risks of political control versus the corporatism which exists inside the judiciary system.
Mr.Xhafaj reiterated its invitation to the new generation of School to be part of experts and other groups of interest who provide recommendations and expertise to documents produced by the parliamentary committee and its high-level experts. The alumni network of the School continues to be part of the consultation process and to provide relevant recommendations with regard to reform of the justice system.
