European conference of the schools of political studies: "Democracy and Electoral Standards: the Challenges to Europe"

From 16-18 September 2009 was organized in Kiev the biggest regional event of the network of schools on the topic “Democracy and Electoral Standards: the Challenges to Europe”.
About 70 representatives and alumni of 16 schools of political studies shared and discussed through various panels issues such as:
- European electoral standards: challenges for implementation
- Equal political participation: ensuring electoral rights
- Democratic elections and political participation: how to ensure equal opportunities to women and national minorities?
- Rational political choice: the role of politicians, media, and civil society
- Rational politics and its effects on state building
- The responsibility of the media and the rational political choice
The event was addressed by Ukrainian deputy Prime minister and the Minister of Justice as well as Mr Jean Louis Laurens, Director General of Democracy and Political Affairs of the Council of Europe. Senior experts through their introductions and interesting experiences stimulated a very interactive and fruitful discussion in the conference.
