Training course on democratic leadership

The Albanian School of Political Studies held  a training course on "Democratic Leadership" in Hotel Butrinti, Saranda, on June 13-15, 2008.  The trainer of the course was Mr. John Jackson from Capacity Building International.

The main subtopic of the course were:

  •   Aspects of traditional leadership approaches
  •   Assessing your own leadership
  •   Modern Leadership – Meeting the Challenge
  •   Introduction to the ‘Leadership Benchmark’
  •   A Vision for Better Local Government; Stakeholder Analysis Template
  •   Individual development of Personal Action Plans
  •   Modern Leadership – Developing the Practices
  •   The Core Practices and Skills of Leadership
  •   Your people / task orientation
  •   Leadership Challenge Papers: Make major changes; Build powerful teams; Create a learning organisation; Develop direction and strategy
  •   Individual development of Personal Action Plans

Of special importance, followed by questions and discussion, were the topics related to:
  •   Leadership in institutions, community;
  •   The trends in modern local governme and the real purpose of it;
  •   Promoting ethical government;
  •   Towards community planning.

The fourth course introduced new approach on modern leadership through interactive exercises, role plays, self assessment and creativity. It enabled a lively debate and discussions on skills and attitudes of leaders and leadership in various situations. The participants found the methodology and topics very relevant and practical in terms of understanding and sharing as well as acquiring new concepts and knowledge.
